The Prepaid Nature of Our Existence

Consider this:

Our lives are like mobile SIM cards. The Universal Operator (will be wrong to refer to HIM/HER as a Service Provider), however, does not believe in the post-paid concept. And so, all our lives are like pre-paid SIM cards. And just like in the mobile business, we can, indeed, choose what features we want on our SIMs, so it is, in life.

For the evolved souls, it will suffice to say that if you do good in one life, chances are that you will be endowed with a higher quality of living in the same and in another. But for those who are still finding it difficult to understand and appreciate this reality about life, it is enough to understand that you cannot choose when you are born, to whom, where, what is the purpose of your life and when do you depart. You can choose nothing. Because your existence, just as any other's, on this planet, in this life, is pre-ordained. Pre-paid. Paid for by your deeds (thoughts and actions, a.k.a., your karma) in a previous life.

But this point misses most people. You imagine you are in control. That you are the maker and you are the doer. You believe in God. You believe in yourself. Both are good things. It is always good to believe that you can do things. But when you start believing that
ONLY you can do things, you miss the reality that you are, after all, like that pre-paid SIM card. It has limited currency and limited features__determined by the Operator. The day it runs out of currency, it just stops performing.

Often times, without realizing that you have a pre-paid nature to our existence, you punish yourself by cursing your fate, blaming God for being partisan or even non-existent, and compare yourself with the features endowed in other creations. This is a zero-sum game. Just as a pre-paid SIM card can be re-charged only by the Operator and never by the customer, so it is with life. We will do well to embrace, appreciate and celebrate this truth.

The Learnings:

1. Our creation is pre-ordained: from where and when and to whom we are born to the purpose of our life and the time when we will depart

2. The Universal Operator chooses to endow each of HIS/HER creation with specific features. The rationale behind such endowment is how you lived another life given to you. And, interestingly, no two creations have the same set of features. Therefore, there really is no point in comparing ourselves with others.

3. Embracing this pre-ordained nature of our existence, helps us lead our lives with sanity, meaning and purpose__peacefully.
